Zach was not sleeping or eating well, and several people noticed his stomach was kind of bulging out more than usual.
Jennifer, Zach's mom, thought that he just had an upset stomach or a minor ear infection, but test results showed a six-inch tumor in Zach's stomach area. After x-rays and a CT scan, the doctor was 80 percent sure it was cancerous. A surgery confirmed he had Stage 4, Group 4, High Risk Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma.
Zach was signed up for a clinical trial and received 45 weeks of chemo and 6 weeks of radiation.
The good news: he has been cancer free since May 2011!
Zach is one of the nearly 16,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year that we represent at the Children's Cause for Cancer Advocacy.
And by 2020, there will be at least 500,000 childhood cancer survivors in the United States who have unique health care needs that often are not addressed. We stand for them as well.
Donate today. Help us as we advocate for these kids with cancer, survivors, and their families.
